Identity Fraud / Theft
Zip Co NZ Ltd takes many steps to prevent identity theft. However, if you suspect someone has used your ID (Drivers Licence, Passport or Kiwi Access Card) without your permission to create a Zip Co NZ account, you may be subject to identity theft.
Identity theft occurs when someone obtains credit using another person’s name.
If you believe this has happened to you:
- Contact the NZTA to cancel your Drivers Licence
- Ask all the credit reporters to freeze (suppress) the credit report and place a fraud alert on it by contacting Centrix, Equifax and Illion
- Notify your local police station
- Contact ID care for more support
For more information about identity theft, see the Department of Internal Affairs identity theft website for examples and a checklist to use in the case of suspected identity compromise
